Long Island Iced Tea
I was introduced to the Long Island iced tea in college, and it has a reputation as a drink reserved for bar-novices and would-be partiers all headed for the same destination: a hangover. At first glance, the boozy cocktail looks like a big mess — four disparate spirits tied together with orange liqueur, lemon juice, and Coca-Cola. And yet, somehow it works.
Ingredients
- Ice
- 1/2 ounce gin
- 1/2 ounce vodka
- 1/2 ounce white rum
- 1/2 ounce blanco (silver) tequila
- 1/2 ounce orange liqueur (such as Cointreau) or triple sec
- 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1/4 ounce Simple Syrup
- 2 ounces cold Coca-Cola soda, plus more as needed
- Lemon wedge, for garnish
- Fill a highball glass with ice.
- Place 1/2 ounce gin, 1/2 ounce vodka, 1/2 ounce white rum, 1/2 ounce blanco tequila, 1/2 ounce orange liqueur, 1/2 ounce lemon juice, and 1/4 ounce simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker halfway with ice, seal, and shake until the outside of the shaker is very frosty, about 20 seconds.
- Pour through a strainer into the glass. Top with 2 ounces cold Coca-Cola soda, plus more if desired. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
